    Summary

    The Job Coach provides on-the-job training, guidance, and support to individuals who are blind or have low vision, or are Intelectually or Developmentally Disabled (IDD) to help them succeed in competitive, integrated employment settings. This position ensures that clients gain the skills, confidence, and independence needed to perform job tasks effectively, integrate into the workplace culture, and maintain long-term employment.

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide individualized job coaching and support to IDD, and blind and low vision clients in their employment settings.
    • Collaborate with employers and coworkers to facilitate effective communication, accessibility, and inclusion.
    • Conduct task analyses and adapt training methods to accommodate client abilities and workplace requirements.
    • Support clients in learning job duties, workplace technology, assistive devices, and accessibility tools (e.g., screen readers, magnifiers, braille displays).
    • Reinforce work behaviors such as punctuality, task completion, communication, and professional workplace etiquette.
    • Act as a liaison between the client, employer, and vocational rehabilitation team to monitor progress and address challenges.
    • Develop strategies to overcome barriers to employment, ensuring both safety and independence at the workplace.
    • Provide fading support over time, encouraging client independence and natural workplace supports.
    • Document client progress, coaching hours, and employer feedback according to program and agency requirements.
    • Participate in team meetings, training, and ongoing professional development in the field of blindness/low vision employment support.

    Qualifications:

    • Experience working with individuals who are blind, low vision, or other disabilities (preferred).
    • Knowledge of assistive technology and workplace accommodations for individuals with vision loss.
    • Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to adapt training methods and break down tasks into manageable steps.
    • Patience, flexibility, and a commitment to supporting client independence.
    • Reliable transportation to provide job coaching services at various employer sites.
    • Workday Employment Training completion a plus
    • First Aid-CPR
    • Must be able to complete a criminal history background check and onboarding requirements for the Oregon Commission of the Blind

    Work Environment & Physical Demands:

    • Job coaching takes place at employer worksites (retail, food service, office, warehouse, etc.).
    • Requires mobility to navigate a variety of workplace environments.
    • May involve standing, walking, or assisting clients in performing physical job tasks.
    • Must be able to work in Multnomah, Clackamas and Washington Counties. Travel to Salem for coaching supports is occasionally required

    Job Type: Full time and benefited position. Hours may vary, including evenings or weekends, based on client employment schedules and needs.

    Expected hours: 40 per week - Overtime OK with Manager Approval

    Pay: $26.00 - $27.50 per hour
